Creating Beautiful and Healthy Smiles
Orthodontics has provided me a professional outlet to best use my talents — an aptitude for science and technology and an artistic background — with a desire to help others.
I enjoy being able to give people the smile they have hoped for, while also making sure their teeth are in a healthy position and they have a good bite. That combination of health and aesthetics is appealing: I want people to enjoy the smile we have worked so hard to achieve, for a lifetime!
In the almost 30 years I have practiced, I have had the pleasure of meeting so many wonderful people. I’m especially enthused now to be seeing and creating smiles for the second, and even third, generation of some families!
Education and Experience
I returned to school when I was 30 years young, after having spent ten years trying to become a syndicated cartoonist. I attended the University of Washington for my undergraduate pre-dental courses, and then my Doctorate of Dental Surgery.
Following dental school, I completed my certificate of specialty in orthodontics at the University of California, San Francisco.
Dr. Max Orthodontics opened the doors in 1995. I am proud of the care we have provided through the years, our personal approach to treatment, and all the amazing smiles we have created!
Technology and Constant Education
One of the most incredible aspects of orthodontics, I feel, is the constant innovation. Research leads to discoveries and the development of revolutionary technologies and methodologies. In the years I have practiced, I have seen these advances: treatment is now swifter, more comfortable, and more accurate, and delivers stable, beautiful smiles!
I have incorporated the best available technology into our office: SureSmile®, iTero® Element™, and 3-D X-rays, to name a few. We were one of the ten offices in the U.S. chosen to test the iTero scanner a dozen years ago, and I brought iTero technology to SureSmile and was the first practitioner to test it with them.
Of all the advancements, I am most fascinated by and love using SureSmile. It empowers me to correct different aspects of the smile more accurately and efficiently, and fully customize treatment to the individual. Using robotic technology, this delivers the most aesthetically pleasing results.
Patients love to see their treatment plan and how their new smile will fit their face!
Technology requires continuing education to take advantage of its capabilities, so I constantly seek out opportunities to learn.
I am a member of the:
- American Association of Orthodontists
- American Dental Association
- Washington State Society of Orthodontists
- Washington State Dental Society
- Snohomish County Dental Society
- World Federation of Orthodontists
These professional organizations offer numerous ways for me to learn from leading practitioners and researchers. In addition to conferences, lectures, and seminars, they publish refereed journals and other periodocals that address new developments, emerging research, and topics of concern.
By staying current on the latest information, and incorporating the best new options into the office, I ensure I provide patients with the ideal treatment and results.
I was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and moved to Seattle when I was 16. I have lived in Redmond for almost 30 years.
I have many interests outside of orthodontics, with family and friends always being my top priority. Travel and filmmaking are two of my loves. I have been to Europe about 25 times, and during my last visit I went to Skellig Michael, the island where Star Wars was filmed!
I have professional video equipment, as well as production computers and monitors. I enjoy filming outdoors: sunrises and sunsets, and along hiking trails. I enjoy watching movies, too, and marvel at the techniques used in filming and processing. I support the Pacific Science Center and really like watching movies on their six-story-tall screen with dual laser 4-k projectors!
Giving back to the community is part of who I am. I have been part of the Monroe Kiwanis for 25 years and served as president, past president, and treasurer. I coordinated our semi-annual food drives for ten years. I was the Kiwanis liaison with the Monroe Key Club, so I attended their morning meetings at the high school. In addition, I have had the pleasure of being a judge for the Monroe Lip Sync for more than 15 years.
